Ongoing Support for Small Businesses Supported

‘Today’s announcement by the Minister for Small Business, Madeleine Ogilvie, that the support provided over the months since the reopening of the state are to continue for another month are welcomed’, said Robert Mallett CEO of the Tasmanian Small Business Council.

‘So far 1,550 small businesses have been supported over the last two months with a number of applications still to be assessed for the January/February round.

‘The support of approximately $3.18 million so far to the successful applicants is a lifeline for many small business people and their families around the state.

‘When things get tough in your business, invariably a range of other complicating factors come into play and it is hard to see a way out. Ongoing support such as this is essential, not only for business health but physical and mental health for those under pressure.

‘Unsurprisingly, the majority of successful applicants were in the hospitality and tourism sectors followed by retail.

A pleasing trend is that there were less applications in the second round and the TSBC hopes that in the third round there will be even less as the state readjusts to what may be considered a “normal” way of life, albeit with COVID.
