The App’s Been Scrapped – About Time

‘Today’s scrapping of the COVID Tas Check in App is good news for all Tasmanians’, said Robert Mallett CEO of the Tasmanian Small Business Council.

‘The public acceptance that it hasn’t been used since soon into the new year has only fuelled discontent and confusion among Tasmanian residents trying to return to as normal existence as possible with the shadow of COVID looking over our shoulder.

‘Whilst small business owners have not been legally responsible for people checking into their business premises, there is still a measure of angst when you see people flouting the law and entering without checking in. Do you challenge the customer, or do you just let it go?

‘Today’s announcement which still requires us to check into pubs, clubs, casino and large gatherings will be completely nonsensical unless the government can assure Tasmanians that the information will be used to keep us even safer than if we didn’t need to use it.
